Portrait Painting

I suppose most painters don’t tackle portrait painting, maybe because you are usually working to somebody’s instruction and that can affect your creativity, but if I get the chance, I’ll have a go at it and it may be harder work than landscape, but it’s a lot more adventurous.

I look to Matisse, Freud, Kokoshka John Singer Sargeant and many others for help and inspiration – I see wonderful portraits at the London Art Fair every year.

More recently my portraits have been in oil, and I’m currently looking forward to painting a lady in Tunbridge Wells – so come back soon to see how that turns out.
